Your password isn’t accepted
The form says:Incorrect email or password for email your addressThat sentence covers both halves, deliberately — it may be the password that is wrong, or it may be that no account exists at the address you typed. Check the address first, then try the password again. If you have never set a password, you don’t have one to get wrong. Use a login code instead, and set a password afterwards from your Account page.
Resetting it
1
Open the reset page
Go to
/reset_password on your group’s website. The page is headed Reset Password.2
Enter your email address
Under Your email address:, enter the address on your member record, then press Send reset email.
3
Follow the link in the email
The page changes to Email Sent and says “An email has been sent to your address. Please follow the link in that email to continue.” If you don’t see it, check your spam folder. The link is good for 3 hours.
4
Set a new password
Under Welcome Back, fill in Please set a new password and Confirm Password with the same password. A password that is in common use is refused — the error reads “must not resemble a common password”.
Using a login code instead
On the password screen, below OR, is a panel reading Send login code to your address. Press Send login code, and GroupFlow emails you a six-digit code. Enter it under Enter the code from the email:. A code is good for 3 hours from the moment it is sent. Asking for another while the first is still live sends you the same code again and pushes its expiry out another 3 hours, so if several of these emails have arrived, any of them will do — they all carry the same six digits. A fresh code is only issued once the old one has expired. The code is refused
A refused code says:Account not found, or incorrect auth tokenOne message covers three different causes, so that the page never reveals whether an account exists at an address:
- the code was typed wrongly
- the code has expired
- there is no account at that address
Too many tries
Five refused codes in a row, each within 5 minutes of the one before, lock the address and change the message to:Too many failed attempts. Please try again later. The lock lasts one hour from the fifth failure. Nothing is broken and nobody has to unlock it, but a correct code won’t be accepted until the hour is up — so do wait rather than keep trying. A wrong code in the first five minutes after the hour is up locks the address for another hour, so when you come back, come back with the code in front of you.
No email arrives at all
If neither the reset email nor the login code reaches you, work down this list. Check your junk folder. Both emails say so, and this is the usual answer. Check whether you got a different email. If your group holds no record of the address you typed, GroupFlow can’t send a code, and sends you an email headed “No account found for this email address” instead. The login form still shows the code box, so the email is the only place this is said. If that is what arrived, the address is the problem — see Creating Your Account. Check which address your group holds for you. You can only be reached at the address on your member record. If you have changed email provider since you joined, ask an organizer to update it — organizers can change a member’s address, and some groups keep that change to themselves entirely. Check whether your address is blocked. If one of your group’s emails was ever marked as spam, or an email to you bounced, GroupFlow stops sending to that address to protect the group’s standing as a sender. Your group’s website has an Email Deliverability page at/help/unblock-email that explains it and walks you through getting unblocked — the short version is to mark the emails as not spam, add your group’s two sending addresses to your contacts, and ask GroupFlow support to send a test email.
Rather than marking an email as spam, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of it, or turn that kind of email off in your Notification preferences. Marking one as spam stops every email from your group, including the ones you need in order to log in.
You have never logged in before
Two situations look the same from the outside and are fixed differently. You applied and were accepted. Your welcome email was followed by a second email with a link that sets your password, and that link expires. If it has, reset your password as above. Your group came to GroupFlow from Meetup. Your member record may have no email address on it, which is why nothing can be sent to you. Go to/register-member/email, enter your address under Registration, and press Next. GroupFlow emails you to confirm the address, and once confirmed it is attached to your record. See Creating Your Account for the rest of that flow.
Neither. If you have never been an approved member, there is nothing to log in to yet — apply first.
Google and Facebook sign-in
Continue with Google and Continue with Facebook sit above the email field on the login form. They sign you in with the address Google or Facebook holds for you, which is not necessarily the one on your member record — if they take you to an account that isn’t the one you expected, that mismatch is why, and signing in with your email address and a login code instead will get you to the right one. There is nothing to connect by hand first. If the address matches your member record, GroupFlow signs you into that account; if it doesn’t, it makes a new one.You are signed in, but can’t see member pages
Being signed in and having an active membership are two different things. If your membership has lapsed, you can still sign in; you are taken to your dues rather than to the members area. Your Account page shows your Member status.Still stuck
Ask an organizer of your group — they can see and change the address on your record, which is the one thing you can’t do from outside. For a blocked email address, write to support@groupflow.app, as the Email Deliverability page describes.Creating Your Account
